Ramakrishna Mission, Bhubaneswar with Swami Stutyananda as its Head started this institution during Sri Ramakrishna Deva's 150th Birth Anniversary celebrations in 1985 and formed a group of devotees to run it as a private center. The center acquired a piece of land where Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi had alighted from a lunch in November 1888 during her first visit to Puri Jagannath Dham. The ashrama complex was designed by Swami Tattvajnanananda. Most Revered Swami Gahananandaji Maharaj laid its foundation in 1993 and consecreted the temple of Sri Ramakrishna Deva in 2006.

The Ashrama was taken over by Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission , Belur Math and declared a sub-center of Ramakrishna Mission, Belur math and declared a sub-center of Ramakrishna Mission , Bhubaneswar with its distinctive name of 'Ramakrishna Mission,Cuttack' on 11th November 2016 with Swami Bhubaneswarananda as the monk-in-charge..

The Ramakrishna Mission, a widely acclaimed organisation of international repute having its headquarters at Belur Math, Howrah, West Bengal ,India, was founded by Swami Vivekananda in May 1897 as an instrument for the dissemination of Sri Ramakrishna's lofty spiritual teachings and the rich cultural heritage of India. The Mission's goal is to achieve this by translating its ideal into practical activities for the elevation of humanity irrespective of caste ,creed , religion and nationality, looking upon people as the veritable manifestation of the Divine. Swamiji's aims and ideals found pithy expression in his utterance he made before the members of the Mission , monastic and lay, namely 'Atmano Makshartham Jagaddhitaya Cha', for one's own spiritual liberation and for the well-being of the world.

The Ashram in Cuttack was taken over by Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math and was declared as a sub-center of Ramakrishna Mission, Bhubaneswar with its distinctive name of 'Ramakrishna Mission, Cuttack' on 11th November 2016 with Swami Bhubaneswarananda as the monk-in-charge. It officially became an independent branch of 'Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math' on 1st April 2018 with Swami Akinchanananda as its Secretary. At present Swami Jivanathananda has been deputed to this center to assist the Secretary.
